Author Guidelines

1. General Information

Sanitasi: Jurnal Kesehatan Lingkungan is an open-access, peer-reviewed scientific journal published twice a year in the field of environmental health sciences.
The journal aims to publish high-quality scientific articles that contribute to the development of knowledge, research, technology, and evidence-based practices in environmental health. 
The journal welcomes original scientific contributions related to environmental health, including but not limited to:

• Land Sanitation and Waste Management;
• Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH);
• Vector and Pest Control;
• Food and Beverage Sanitation;
• Occupational Health and Safety;
• Environmental Health Epidemiology;
• Environmental Health Technology;
• Environmental Risk Assessment;
• Community-based Environmental Health Intervention.

The journal publishes original research articles, review articles, research letters, case studies, and case reports relevant to environmental health issues. 
Authors are required to ensure that submitted manuscripts comply with all journal requirements, including manuscript structure, formatting guidelines, ethical standards, citation style, and publication policies. 
Manuscripts that do not comply with the journal requirements may be returned to authors for revision before proceeding to the editorial review process.

2. Manuscript Submission Requirements

Authors submitting manuscripts to Sanitasi: Jurnal Kesehatan Lingkungan must ensure that:

1. The manuscript represents original research and has not been published previously.
2. The manuscript is not under consideration by another journal during the review process.
3. The manuscript does not contain plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, duplicate publication, or other forms of research misconduct.
4. All authors have approved the submitted manuscript and agreed with its submission to the journal.
5. The manuscript follows the official Sanitasi: Jurnal Kesehatan Lingkungan Manuscript Template.
6. Authors comply with ethical requirements for research involving humans, animals, personal data, or environmentally sensitive materials.

The journal accepts manuscripts written in English or Indonesian. 
Authors whose manuscripts are written in English are encouraged to ensure appropriate grammar, clarity, and academic writing quality before submission. 
All submitted manuscripts will undergo plagiarism screening using appropriate plagiarism detection software, such as Turnitin.

3. Manuscript Preparation

Manuscript Format

Manuscripts should be prepared using Microsoft Word or compatible word-processing software. 
The manuscript requirements are:

• Paper size: A4 (210 × 297 mm);
• Font: LATO;
• Format: Single column;
• Margins: Top: 3 cm; Bottom: 2 cm; Left: 3 cm; Right: 2 cm;
• Line spacing: Single;
• Maximum length: 8,000 words.

Authors should prepare manuscripts according to the journal template provided by Sanitasi: Jurnal Kesehatan Lingkungan.

4. Manuscript Structure

The manuscript should be organized according to the following structure:

2. Authors' Names
3. Authors' Affiliations
4. Abstract
5. Keywords
6. Introduction
7. Methods
8. Results
9. Discussion
10. Conclusions
11. Recommendations (optional)
12. Acknowledgments (optional)

5. Title

The title should accurately describe the main topic and scientific contribution of the manuscript. 
The title should:

• Be clear, concise, specific, and informative;
• Represent the research topic;
• Avoid unnecessary abbreviations;
• Not contain research conclusions or results;
• Not be written as a summary of findings.

The title should be written in English and Indonesian and should not exceed 14 words. 
Title formatting:

• Font: Lato 16 pt;
• Bold;
• Sentence case;
• Center aligned.

6. Authors' Names and Affiliations

Authors' names should be written without academic titles, professional positions, or honorifics. 
Authors should provide:

• Full name;
• Department or research unit;
• Faculty (if applicable);
• Institution/university name;
• Institutional address;
• Country.

The corresponding author should be indicated with an asterisk (*) and must provide an active email address. 
All authors must meet authorship criteria and should have contributed substantially to the research, manuscript preparation, or interpretation of findings.

7. Abstract

The abstract must be written in English and Indonesian. 
The abstract length should be 200–300 words and written in one paragraph. 
The abstract should include:

• Background or research problem;
• Objective;
• Methods;
• Main results;
• Conclusion.

The abstract should:

• Not include references;
• Not contain tables or figures;
• Avoid unexplained abbreviations;
• Not present information that is not discussed in the manuscript;
• Not repeat the title.

The abstract should provide a concise overview of what was conducted and what was found in the study.

8. Keywords

Authors should provide 3–5 keywords or key phrases representing the main concepts of the manuscript. 
Keywords should:

• Be relevant to the research topic;
• Support indexing and article discoverability;
• Be separated using commas.

Example: Sanitation, dengue, Aedes, environmental health

9. Introduction

The Introduction section should provide a clear background and scientific rationale for the research. 
Authors should present:

1. The general background and significance of the research topic;
2. A brief and relevant review of previous studies;
3. Current knowledge and limitations of existing research;
4. The research gap and scientific novelty of the study;
5. The objectives or research questions at the end of the section.

The Introduction should explain why the research is important and how the study contributes to the advancement of environmental health sciences. 
Authors should avoid excessive literature reviews and focus on relevant, recent, and scientifically important references.

10. Methods

The Methods section should provide sufficient information to allow readers and researchers to understand, evaluate, and reproduce the research. 
The Methods section should include, but is not limited to:

• Research design;
• Study location and period;
• Population and sample characteristics;
• Sampling techniques;
• Data sources;
• Research instruments and materials;
• Data collection procedures;
• Data analysis methods;
• Statistical analysis (if applicable).

Previously established methods should be properly referenced, while modifications to existing methods should be clearly explained. 
For research involving human participants, animals, biological materials, or sensitive data, authors must provide information regarding ethical approval, including the name of the ethics committee and approval number when applicable. 
Authors must ensure that research procedures comply with relevant ethical standards and regulations.

11. Results

The Results section should present the research findings clearly, objectively, and systematically. 
Authors should:

• Present findings based on the research objectives;
• Avoid interpretation or discussion of results in this section;
• Report relevant statistical analyses;
• Present complete findings rather than selectively reporting only significant results;
• Provide information regarding sample size, missing data, and analytical procedures when relevant.

Tables and figures should be used effectively to present important findings.
Tables and figures should:

• Be numbered consecutively according to their appearance in the manuscript;
• Have clear and informative titles;
• Be referred to in the main text;
• Provide sufficient information to be understood independently.

The recommended maximum number of tables and figures is six.

12. Discussion

The Discussion section should explain the meaning and significance of the research findings. 
Authors should discuss:

• The interpretation of major findings;
• The relationship between findings and research objectives;
• Comparison with previous studies;
• Possible explanations for similarities or differences with existing research;
• Scientific and practical implications;
• Limitations of the study;
• Recommendations for future research.

The Discussion should not merely repeat the Results section but should provide critical scientific interpretation and demonstrate the contribution of the research to environmental health knowledge.
Authors should use balanced references, including studies that support and contradict the research findings.

13. Conclusions

The Conclusions section should provide a clear summary of the main findings and directly answer the research objectives.
The conclusion should:

• Highlight the main scientific contribution of the study;
• Explain the implications of the findings;
• Avoid repeating the abstract or presenting new information that has not been discussed previously.

Recommendations for future research or practical implementation may be included when relevant.

14. Acknowledgments

The Acknowledgments section may be included to recognize individuals, institutions, organizations, or funding agencies that contributed to the research process but do not meet the criteria for authorship.
Authors should mention:

• Research funding sources;
• Technical assistance;
• Institutional support;
• Other contributions related to the research implementation.

15. Author Declaration

Before publication, authors must confirm their responsibility and compliance with ethical publication standards.
By submitting a manuscript to Sanitasi: Jurnal Kesehatan Lingkungan, authors declare that:

1. Originality and Responsibility
   The manuscript represents original work, has not been published previously, and is not under consideration by another journal. Authors are responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and ethical compliance of the submitted work.
2. Author Contribution
   All authors have made substantial contributions to the research, including the conception and design of the study, data collection, analysis, interpretation of findings, manuscript preparation, and critical revision. All authors have reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript and agree to be accountable for their contributions.
3. Funding Disclosure
   Authors must disclose all sources of financial support, research grants, or institutional assistance related to the study. If no specific funding was received, this should be clearly stated in the manuscript.
4. Conflict of Interest (CoI)
   Authors must disclose any financial, personal, institutional, or professional relationships that may influence the research process, interpretation of findings, or publication decision. If no conflict of interest exists, authors should provide an appropriate declaration.
5. Research Integrity and Ethical Compliance
   Authors confirm that the manuscript does not contain plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, or other forms of research misconduct. Research involving human participants, animals, or sensitive data must comply with applicable ethical standards and regulations.
6. Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) Policy
   Authors must disclose the use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools in manuscript preparation, including writing assistance, data analysis, translation, or image generation. GenAI tools cannot be listed as authors. Authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, integrity, and ethical compliance of the manuscript.
7. Corresponding Author Responsibility
   The corresponding author is responsible for communication with the journal and ensuring that all authors approve the submission, revision, and publication process.

Sanitasi: Jurnal Kesehatan Lingkungan follows the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) regarding authorship, research integrity, conflicts of interest, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence in scholarly publishing.

16. References

References must be prepared using APA Style 7th Edition.
Authors are strongly encouraged to use reference management software, such as:

• Mendeley;
• EndNote;
• Zotero;
• Other compatible reference management tools.

The reference list should follow APA 7th Edition formatting guidelines and must be arranged alphabetically according to the first author's surname.

Authors should ensure that:

1. All references cited in the manuscript appear in the reference list.
2. All references listed are cited within the manuscript.
3. References are relevant, accurate, and directly related to the research topic.
4. Authors include a minimum of 20 references from scientific journal articles published within the last 10 years.
5. Authors prioritize recent primary research articles from reputable national and international journals.
6. DOI links should be included whenever available.
7. Excessive self-citation, irrelevant citations, and citation manipulation should be avoided.

Final Note for Authors
Authors are responsible for ensuring that manuscripts comply with all journal requirements before submission. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in manuscript return for correction or rejection before entering the peer-review process.
